Good timing for review 8/7/2024.
T9R my new favorite thrower.
I’ve got a few bigger more expensive throwers,
and many smaller less useful throwers.
[ Fireflies T9R is the favorite in its weight class. ]
let’s talk about it’s competition:
•••competitor: The MF03 has a warm LED, but obnoxious UI hold for off User Interface is bad, and crazy thick n heavy for something already exorbitantly big… BUT Fireflylite :)
the T9R does the job with a similar beam and tint for 30% the cost,,
the T9R is higher CRI and lightweight, with the same beam pattern angle.
the T9R doesn’t outperform a dish of the MF03 size in overall throw, but the MF03 hardly comes out of the cabinet and has been a burden when I took it on real long hiking excursions.
•••competitor: The K70 was my previous best in slot for: power to weight ratio thrower,,
but the K70 tint is not anywhere as pleasant as the T9R.
the T9R is much smaller and even pocketable in comparison to the K70, with a tighter hotspot! The T9R and K70 are both personal heirlooms that I’d rather bleed for, kill to defend, or fight to the death rather than ever loose these prized cherished possessions. I’d have to be in some dire straights to sell or trade them.
•••competitor: The TS30S is in a similar size bracket and same power source, but the SBT90.2 LED’s tint makes its similar diameter dish have an extra large hotspot (in comparison to T9R) and the TS30S is not a pleasant tint at all, not something I’d want for mood lighting, but TS30S ‘s “fangs” make me want it with a nice FFL quality LED,, so
the T9R wins the comparison with the TS30S.
••••• WINNER Fireflies T9R •••••
•anodized color Desert Yellow
•LED: FFL505A 20W 950 lumens
3500K rosy tint High CRI Emitter
•SMO smoothed machines optics reflector that’s flawless.
•straight centered LED.
•no artifacts in beam unless the exterior of lens is dirty.
•I’m pretty certain it holds the 950 lumens without ever loosing brightness from overheating.
^^^THATS IMPRESSIVE (if it does lower brightness it’s unnoticeable to me as the end user)
•also once the battery gets 3.6v (I’m guessing the voltage) once the battery gets low voltage I still had more than enough charge left to walk home over a half a kilometer with enough light to avoid stepping in snakes and make it home without using my backup light 10180 necklace.
I trusted the T9R as my only light (minus my necklace as backup) in a few barebones jogging scenarios where I run pups fast without a headlamp.
TLDR
out of the box my T9R was glitchy, but honestly, my home is too dusty to do surgery on it here, so I never took it apart, and whatever was out of place that made it glitch, literally moved and shifted back into the proper place thus heeled itself into flawless functionality. the torch healed itself, from regular use, a rare but true story. I’ve knocked it over pretty rough afterwards and still haven’t had it act up or be finicky. although inspecting it closely it has no physical damage on any part of anodizing even through a 1 meter drop onto carpet, and nearly punched sideways from tailstanding while on table without falling.
when trying to bump it gently, I cannot get it to glitch again, so after whatever problem it had the first day out of the box obviously wedged itself to where it needed to be, the T9R works perfectly now.
•••competitor: I would gift my MK47 away because the MK47 user interface makes that light feel obnoxiously overpriced, but I cannot find anyone local that wants it,
this T9R light looks just as good, a similar very attractive Desert Sand Tan color, but the T9R has a better battery system than the MK47 light, this T9R is 1/3rd the cost, with a good mood tint, and I dislike that their competitor’s MK47 showed up problematic with a misaligned LED, without ever resolving the problem for the end user.
Fireflies ~ representative IVY ~Fireflylite outdoor customer relationship rep was always responsive to my nitpicky messages and that makes me feel more comfortable with future purchases that are at times emotionally difficult from the known risk of buying flashlights internationally.
another •••competitor: I don’t own a K1, but without a FFL led in one of hanks lights, I don’t even want to buy a K1 that I previously thought I needed,
because the price of these Fireflies lites are a much better value than anything.
this light was a hard earned purchase with money from The Treasury of the United States of America, and I have not received any special treatment from the manufacturer.
